INTRODUCTION

“You educate a man; you educate a man. You educate a woman; you educate a generation.”

― Brigham Young

The existence of human race is impossible without the equal participation of both men and women. However, there is no doubt in saying women is more necessary than man as they give birth to a child. The continuance of human race is not possible without women.

The population of India is 2nd highest in the world. But the population of men is more than that of women. To be specific, men on earth have outnumbered women by 66 million.  In India, men outnumbers women by around 38 million.  Now, this is not a small figure or a figure which we can ignore.

This gross difference between the population of both sex is due to certain factors like female foeticide, gender based violence, son preference over daughter, dowry deaths etc. These inequalities still exist in our society because of the deep rooted patriarchal mentality. Son is preferred over a girl child as he will continue the family line. Women are forced to pay dowry and if they do not pay, they are victim of abuses and are killed at last. The time has come to take acute measures to save them as the survival of this planet is depended on them.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is a scheme of the government of India launched on 22nd of January in 2015 by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. It aims to create awareness about the child sex ratio and the education of girl child. The scheme was launched with an initial investment of ₹100 crore in 100 selected districts with low CSR covering all States and Union Territories.

IMPROVING THE CONDITION OF WOMEN IN INDIA

This is the need of the hour to improve the condition of women in India. The sole motive of this scheme is to improve the CSR and to have proper education for the girl child. Women play an active role in the development of a nation. We cannot call a nation developed, until and unless its women are educated.

Education has a very powerful impact on the personality of a person. It gives them the power to do or fight against the injustice in the world. The condition of women can be improved by educating both men and women of this county. The male are needed to be educated to protect the girl child and the female, to be empowered. Education can change the mentality of a person towards someone else.

There are various steps taken by the Government of India regarding save and educate the girl child. The most recent initiative regarding this is Beti Bachao Beti Padhao which is actively supported by government of India. Various NGOs, corporate groups are coming together to support the government in this regard. Educating them will make them aware about their rights and duties. It will make them more independent.

CONCLUSION

Education is the vital element required for the empowerment of girl child. This scheme targets 100 most affected districts throughout India to support girl child and have her part of education. Until the mid- nineteenth century, girls were not educated but this trend is changing these days. More people opt for girls than boys. They are being educated and supported to fulfill their goals and aspirations. They are making their families proud. They are doing Professional job, getting medals in Olympics, becoming Doctors, IAS etc. they are in every sphere of modern life. The topper of this year UPSC exam was also a women. But there is still some part left,

The deep-rooted patriarchal thinking is still in our minds and it needs to be corrected.
